Want under-cabinet lights but don't want to worry about wiring them in your kitchen? These LED motion sensor light strips are a great substitute, and personally, I think they're better than wired lights because they will still work when there's a power outage as long as they have a decent charge.
I found these lights on Prime Day and ordered them for my kitchen, not even realizing how much I was going to love them. After Prime Day, I went ahead and ordered another set. The charging station is so handy and I just keep it in my cable hiding box on my counter.
So, when I decided to create a TikTok video about the lights, I had no idea they would prompt so many questions! Here are the answers to those common questions that everyone has been asking in the comments of my video.
How long do they last on a charge?
They will last about 6-7 hours if you keep them always on. They will last up to 30 days on a charge if you set them to Night Motion (and you're not around them very often). The ones in my kitchen lasted about 22 days on one charge and that's with us walking around the kitchen throughout the day and night. So, they turned on quite a bit.
What light settings are there?
There are three different settings. Always on, Night Motion (Motion only when it's dark), and Day Motion (Motion when it's light or dark). I keep mine on Night Motion and there are times they still turn on when it's just a little bit dark. But, I love that.
How long do they take to charge?
The first charge took about 2 hours but after that, they take about an hour at most to fully charge.
How long does the light stay on after motion triggers it?
The light will stay on for 20 seconds after the last movement. It will continue to stay on as long as it senses the motion but turn off once there's no motion for 20 seconds.
Why don't you just replace your microwave lightbulb?
Do you know how annoying it is to go out and buy a replacement for that thing? Also, how many times have you accidentally left that light on all night? It's just asking to die sooner than later. This way I have a motion sensor light that turns on under there whenever I'm around and cooking and it will stay on as long as I'm moving around near it.
What color did you purchase?
I purchased the silver white.
Will the 3M magnetic strips pull the paint off?
I did have to take one of these strips off and it didn't take the paint on my cabinets off. However, it did leave pieces of it on the cabinet and I had to take some time to peel it off. I tested this against our walls and it didn't peel paint. But, I feel like it really has the ability to if it's on there long enough. You could make these renter-friendly with some of this blue Fun-tac to stick them where you want without hurting cabinets or walls.
If you have anything metal around the house, these will stick to them without the 3M magnetic strips. That's how I stuck it to my microwave without using a magnetic strip.
