Why couples need to take a ‘just us’ trip before a deployment or time apart

The past couple months have been crazy. I mean absolutely, hands-down, crazy as you know what! I’m exhausted but I’m so glad Drake and I made a point to do something together before this deployment kicks off.

Take some time for yourselves

If there’s any advice I can give to a couple about to face a large chunk of time away from each other, it’s to take time for yourselves. The stress of the upcoming time apart can be heavy, exhausting and there can be a lot of arguing about some of the most ridiculous things you can think of. One of you is about to go and do something you’ve never done to a place you’ve never been, and the other is about to hold down the fort while the other is away saving the world.

There’s so much work to be done! Paperwork, housework, planning, shopping, legal stuff, packing, security upgrades, car arrangements, storage, and so much more! It’s a lot! And, it can weigh on your relationship more than you know. So, Drake and I decided to take a little trip away, just us, and with the help of Grandma and Grandpa Bazzle, we made it happen!

If you’re facing time apart, you need to do it too!

A 4-day cruise out of our city was just what the doctor ordered

We didn’t have much time to plan but we found there was a cruise heading out of Tampa the weekend before the actual weekend Drake was set to leave. So, we did it! We booked a Carnival Cruise on the Paradise ship out of Tampa headed for Cozumel. It was an added expense, but it was one that was needed! I really suggest doing something like this. You don’t need a week-long vacation… Just a little adventure and you’re set!

We got to recharge our batteries and be just us again

I’ll admit it, we talked about the kids a lot and we missed them like crazy. But there was something special about being able to just be us together, away from everything, just for a few days. Parenting and working can be exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I love my life as a working Mom and I’m so blessed with a beautiful little family.

But, sometimes you forget who you are as a couple when you’re so busy with work and babies and life. This time together, helped us recharge and refuel our love for each other and the life we’ve created together. No doubt about that.

So now, it's the final countdown

ID cards, passports, packing, cleaning, you name it, we’re doing it. But, we’re getting it done and reminiscing on the fun memories we made on our cruise.

I’ll be sharing a lot more of this journey with you soon! But for now, please keep our family in your prayers as we face this crazy year ahead. We do get to see Drake in a few months before he heads over to Kuwait! So there’s a little something to look forward to in the coming months. But for now, we’re getting all the Drake, Daddy, DBazz time in that we can! We love you all so much! Thank you for being so supportive throughout all of this!
